The Magic of the Venice Carnival

Last February, I finally made it to Venice for the Carnival. Strange as it may , I’d always avoided it because of the crowds, but my friend convinced me to go. Venice is a surreal place, and during the festival, it’s truly hard to believe it’s the 21st century!

We had expected some costumes, but did we realize that we were about to enter a completely different world. No had we stepped onto St. Mark’s Square than we were surrounded by people in gold masks and heavy silk and velvet attire. the mist came a mysterious figure in a black cloak, looking like a ghost from the 1700s. It was a bit spooky, but there was more to come.

Not we joined the midnight masquerade did we realize how magical the city becomes at night. Along the canals musicians playing Vivaldi, while everyone danced under the stars. anyone told me I would be wearing a giant wig, dancing with strangers and singing in a gondola, I wouldn’t have believed them!

There were so many breathtaking masks and candles all around us. else in the world could you experience such a dreamlike atmosphere. Never I have imagined that a simple trip could feel like time travel. Only we finally took off our masks and sat down for an espresso we realize how exhausted but happy we were. anyone should want to stay at home in February, I really don’t know.
